Woman accused in Lasya murder dies

Hyderabad: Yadamma, who was allegedly involved in the sensational killing of four-year-old Lasya in Deendayalnagar-Sanat nagar area on October 14, died of injuries Saturday, while undergoing treatment here. A tense situation continued to prevail in the locality following the murder, police said.

Yadamma, her husband Laxmaiah, daughter Padma, and son Narasimha, who were “involved in acts of either killing Lasya or hiding her body in their house,” had been beaten up by Lasya's parents and other neighbours after the girl’s body was found in a decomposed state in the house on Sunday last. A neighbour, Yadagiri, was also involved in the crime, as per the police case.

Lasya was killed by the family that stayed opposite to her family house across the road, following a long-lasting feud between the two sides. The elderly woman died at Gandhi Hospital. Padma, Narasimha and Yadagiri had been arrested on Tuesday. Initially, cops had registered a case under sections 324, 427 & 448 of IPC. Now, it is turned into a murder case.

“The situation in the locality is still tense. We are yet to identify the persons (locals) who attac ked them. Based on the investigations, we will arrest the culprits and remand them,” said Sanath Nagar inspector K. Sudershan Reddy.

Lasya was the only daughter of Naveen Chary and Mayuri, residents of Deendayal Nagar in Sanathnagar area. Accused Yadagiri and Padma were neighbours, residing on both sides of the road there. The three families had disputes from the time their houses were constructed.

They used to have arguments over tap water, cleaning the premises, and putting rangoli in the verandah. Yadagiri had rented out his house and was staying in Kukatpally area, while Padma who lost her husband a few years ago stayed with her parents Laxmaiah and Yadamma and her brother Narasimha.

The family fued intensified after Lasya’s parents allegedly spread a story in the area that Padma was having an illicit affair with Yadagiri. On October 14, while Lasya was playing in front of her house, a GHMC vehicle fogged the area around 8pm.

The area was filled with smoke. Taking advantage of this, Padma allegedly took the child to her home and with the help of her parents throttled her to death.
