New Delhi: Against the backdrop of the recent incidents of violence in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that the ideals and path shown by Mahatma Gandhi are extremely relevant. He stated this in a message on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations (UN).
“Greetings to everyone on UN Day. UN completes 70 years in service of humanity, committed to its goal of making the world a peaceful place,” the PM said. “The ideals and path shown by Gandhiji are extremely relevant today and they resonate with the UN charter and ideals of the UN,” Mr Modi said.
His reference to Gandhi’s ideals and path assumes significance in view of recent incidents, including the lynching of a man in Uttar Pradesh over beef-eating rumours and the killing of two toddlers of a dalit family in Haryana.
The Prime Minister said India is at the forefront of various initiatives of the UN and is committed to doing “our best in supporting UN in their endeavours”.
