Cyberabad traffic unit hit by shortage of staff
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic department is facing a severe staff crunch and many traffic signals do not have officials to control or monitor vehicle movement. There are also not many officials to check the entry of vehicles on the PVNR expressway’s ramp — under Cyberabad jurisdiction.
For the over 3,600 sq. km area, the total staff of the Cyberabad Traffic department is 1,000 officials including the deputy commissioner — traffic, and traffic inspectors. They can cover only 10 per cent of the area.
Keeping in mind the growing traffic needs, the department needs three times the present number of staff — over 3,000 traffic officials. Even the Cyberabad Law and Order police has inadequate manpower.
Cyberabad has 64 important junctions and hundreds of smaller ones, thanks to the new colonies. It needs foot overbridges, proper U- turns, pedestrian crossings, central barricading, proper streetlights and widening of roads.
As many corporates are located in Cyberabad, there is a need of traffic officials during night hours as well. Traffic cops are on duty up to 10 pm, which is also extended to 11 pm. However, vehicle movement is gradually increasing during late hours, up to 1 am.
