Capital Building: Foreign firms submit bids
Hyderabad: In the ongoing construction of capital city Amaravati the immediate step to take the preparing of actual estimates of the buildings such as Raj Bhavan, Secretariat, High Court, Assembly and others to be constructed in the seed capital.
The independent engineers and the architectural consultants will prepare the estimates. Earlier state government has submitted the rough estimates for the construction of official buildings at Amaravati. In the report submitted to 14th finance commission, the state government said that Rs 1.12 lakh crore would be required for the construction of capital city.
In the memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that for the construction of capital city it would require Rs 1.20 lakh crore over the next one-and-a-half decades. The memorandum also said that the essential infrastructure, including the Raj Bhavan, Secretariat, High Court, Assembly and Council, along with trunk infrastructure is estimated to cost around Rs 42,935 crore over the next five years.
AP financial principal secretary P.V. Ramesh said these are rough estimates; the actual estimates will be prepared by the independent engineers and the architectural consultancy of CRDA.
The AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) already started the process of selecting the architectural consultancy. In response to CRDA’s Request for Qualification (RFQ), 11 architectural firms and consortiums have come forward with bids. The CRDA will shortlist the firms and again call for Request for Proposal (RFP) and these shortlisted firms have to respond for this.
This would involve a technical proposal (Concept design Competition) which will have 80 pc weightage and financial proposal which will have 20 pc weightage. Finally, the firm scoring high on these parameters will be awarded the project. A senior official said the entire process would take a month for completion.
The firms which responded to the RFQ included GMP International Company of Germany, Space Group Company of Korea, Chapman Taylor of UK, Safdie Architects of US and others. After preparation of estimates, the state will submit the same to Centre seeking financial aid.
