Campaign gains momentum in Kozhikode

With poll date nearing, candidates go all out

KOZHIKODE: With the poll date near, the candidates are on a hectic campaign in the city. The battle lines have been set and key political foes identified and strategies fixed, re-fixed and finalised.

The four days' holiday for educational institutions, offices and banks also helped the candidates as they could gather more campaigners to meet the voters in homes.

CPM candidate M. Radhakrishnan of Eranjikkal ward told DC that the campaign was in full swing. "The holidays helped us in reaching out to the voters," he added.

Kishan Chand, Congress candidate of Nadakkavu ward, said the campaign was well on track and the party machinery was well-oiled.

"We have almost covered the entire electorate," he said adding that the ward was a citadel of Congress. "We have been winning the ward for decades," he said.

Meanwhile, pressure groups and residents' associations also started pressurising the candidates raising their demands.

The Mananchira- Vellimadukunnu road action committee organized a candidates' meet and ensured the support of all candidates in the fray for the expansion of the road.

The apex body of residents' associations also started meet-the-candidate programmes in a bid to invite their attention to the issues faced by residents.
