Hyderabad: The central government has cleared projects worth Rs 662.86 crore for 30 cities and towns in AP under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). AP new capital Amaravati is one among the 30 cities.
As part of the first instalment, the Centre will release Rs 66.29 core for AP. The main objective of AMRUT is to provide water supply, sewerage network, green spaces and parks.
The AP government will focus on water supply in 26 AMRUT cities at a cost of Rs 646.29 crore and develop green spaces and parks in 30 cities at a cost of Rs 16.57 crore. This is the first time that the union urban development ministry approved state-level plans, unlike the past practice of approving individual projects.
Under AMRUT, the central government will provide an assistance of 50 pc of the project cost for towns having a population of 10 lakh each, and one third of project cost for cities with a population of above 10 lakh each. The remaining cost of the project has to be borne by states and urban local bodies.
The central government has directed the states to ensure water meters for all consumers in urban areas for efficient management of water supply and reducing supply of water without collecting fee (non- revenue water).
Centre asked to focus on this next year onwards.
