Customer makes lewd gestures at 15-year-old, attacks her father

BENGALURU: A stopover at a food court in Channapatna turned out to be a nightmare for a family from Mysuru, when the father of a 15-year-old girl was assaulted by a thug after he confronted him for making lewd gestures at his daughter. The incident was reported on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway in Ramanagar district on Friday evening.
Venkatesh (name changed), 48, who runs an automobile consultancy firm in Mysuru, told Deccan Chronicle that he along with his wife, son and daughter, had come to Bengaluru for Dasara Holidays.
“We were returning to Mysuru on Friday evening. We stopped at Domino’s Pizza restaurant near Mathikere village in Channapatna. We went to one of the restaurants next to Domino’s Pizza. My daughter said that she wanted to buy pizza and went there. Within a few minutes, around 6 pm, she came running to us and we were shocked to see her crying.”
“When I asked her what happened, she told that a man in the pizza restaurant made lewd gestures at her as if asking her to come with him. Then I went inside the pizza restaurant and he was speaking over the mobile phone as if he had done nothing. When I tried to question him for teasing my daughter he hurled abuses at me. When I objected, he punched on my face and tore my shirt. When he tried to escape, I chased him and caught him in front of the restaurant,” Venkatesh explained.
But he picked up a boulder and hit my forehead and pushed me down. Luckily, the staff working at the restaurants there nabbed him and informed the police, who reached there in 20 minutes and arrested him,” he added.
The Channapatna Rural police took up a case under the provisions of the POCSO Act and arrested, Satish, 25, a resident of Vijayanagar in Bengaluru.
He is said to be working as a manager at a retail outlet in the city.
“The police also took me for a medical check up and got me treated. The accused appeared as though he was under the influence of alcohol,” added Venkatesh, who has sustained injuries on his face, forehead, left elbow and right thumb in the incident.
