Warangal: Youth ends life after alleged police brutality
Maripeda (Warangal): A degree college student, Ginaka Krishna, 20, of Maripeda village, committed suicide on Thursday night after the local police sub-inspector, Krishna Kumar allegedly beat him up for coming in the way of a police patrol vehicle.
Relatives of the boy along with MRPS activists staged a rasta roko at the Maripeda bus station on Friday morning protesting against police brutality on the youth. The father of the boy Guravaiah said his son was wrongly punished and demanded the suspension of the SI.
According to Krishna’s friends, he was taken away by the police in the evening while he was attending the locally arranged cultural programmes and beat him up. Even though his friends requested the police to release him, they refused. Later, after the village sarpanch made a call to the SI, he was released, but was asked to come to the police station every day to sign a register.
Humiliated, Krishna climbed a cellphone tower in SC Colony and called up his friends and said he is committing suicide. Some of his friends reached the location and asked him not to kill himself but within two minutes after his friends arrived, he jumped from the tower.
Meanwhile, the police maintain that they took Krishna into custody only because he was a part of an unruly mob at the cultural programmes.
The relatives of Krishna staged a rasta roko demanding suspension of the SI, ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family and a job to one of the family members.
