Motherjane to open Slash concert in Bengaluru

Slash will first perform in rock music festival ‘MTV Indies Extreme’ in Mumbai on November 7

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As former ‘Guns N’ Roses’ band member Slash performs for the first time in India, the Kochi-based Motherjane will be one of the few coveted bands to open for the iconic guitarist.

Slash will first perform in rock music festival ‘MTV Indies Extreme’ in Mumbai on November 7.

Motherjane will associate with him during his second gig scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on November 14.

Slash’s band featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators will perform particularly to promote the new album ‘Word on Fire’

Having opened for international bands like Megadeth and Machine Head, the Motherjane members John Thomas (drums), Clyde Rozario (bass), Vivek Thomas (vocals) see this as yet another learning experience.

However, their new guitarist Nithin Vijayanath, 38, will be the most excited among the band members as he is all set to open for the legend who inspired him to take up guitar.

“I learnt guitar late when I was studying at Mar Ivanious, Thiruvananthapuram. The albums like Appetite for Destruction and Mr Brownstone led me into guitars,” said Nithin Vijayanath.

As per the Kottayam-based man who was also the former Motherjane manager, his six months’ stint as guitarist took a turning point with the release of the band’s latest track-Clay play. Opening for Slash will be the biggest thing he will do now.

“Though we have started as a typical progressive rock band, our guitars later became heavily inspired by Carnatic music. Now we have cut short the Carnatic parts on strings and have modernised ourselves, especially on vocal arrangements with basic Motherjane elements still in it,” says Vijayanath explaining newer offerings by the band for their Bengaluru fans.
