KALPETTA: A 49-year-old man, who police was searching for in connection with the molestation of an underage girl, allegedly shot himself at a jungle near Pulppalli here on Thursday.
Though he sustained serious injuries in the jaw, the man who was admitted to Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode was out of danger, according to doctors.
The accused, Soman, who runs a provision store at Amarakkuni village near Pulppally, tried to molest a ten-year-old girl on Wednesday evening, according to sub-inspector Abbas Ali. But the girl managed to escape and narrated the incident to her mother.
When the news spread in the morning on Thursday, the villagers blocked traffic on Pulpally-Sulthan Bathery Highway demanding the arrest of the culprit.
When police was searching for him, Soman escaped into Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary where he shot himself with a countrymade gun, Mr Ali said. The man will be arrested on his discharge from hospital, he said.
