Guntur: Burning of farmlands has restarted in the capital region, causing worries among non-LPS farmers about saving their lands. A four-acre sugarcane farm of an anti-LPS farmer was burnt in Velagapudi village in the early hours on Friday. The farmer, Mr G. Chandrasekhar Rao, said that his entire crop, which had been sold it to one Mr M. Srinivas Rao of Venkatapalem, had been cut and readied to be shifted on Friday. However, early in the morning, he was informed by villagers about the fire and by the time he reached his land with his relative, Mr N. Suresh, the crop had been reduced to ashes.
Mr Rao lodged a complaint with the Amaravati police alleging that his farmland might have ben burnt to create fear among anti-LPS farmers as he had not given his land to APCRDA under LPS. He felt that pro LPS forces might have burnt his land, and sought justice from the police. He also demanded the government to stop terrorising anti-LPS farmers.
Meanwhile, anti LPS farmers from various villages of the capital region visited the burnt farmland. They alleged that now that the capital’s foundation laying ceremony was over, the government had started pressuring anti LPS-farmers. They said that they would now have to sleep in the lands to protect them.
CPM Capital Area Committee convener, Mr Ch. Babu Rao, with leaders of other parties and organizations, visited the burnt land and interacted with the farmer, Mr Rao.
Mr Babu Rao said that no one was objecting to pooling of lands of pro-LPS farmers, but they we against collection of anti-LPS farmers’ land by creating fears.
