Angoor remake still on for SRK and Rohit Shetty

Together, they made Chennai Express a success, but the first project that director Rohit Shetty ever took to Shah Rukh Khan, was a remake of the classic 1982 film Angoor. But while Chennai Express progressed on track, the Angoor remake hasn’t been heard of. So what happened to the project? Shah Rukh told us, “Actually, Rohit and I have been making Angoor since the past five years! We initially met for the Angoor remake, but ended up making several other films in the process.”
The superstar shared that the classic, directed by Gulzar and featuring Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma, had been a favourite of his mother’s, and that was why he was so excited when Rohit initially approached him with the idea for the remake. “He even narrated the story and assembled the cast, but when he narrated Chennai Express, we started working on that project. Soon after we finished that, Angoor again became a topic of discussion — but then Dilwale came along. Now that we are finishing up Dilwale, we again discussed Angoor. But now he has started narrating another script altogether! So Angoor is ready, but every film takes its own course and that film will happen with time,” SRK added.
Sajid Khan’s Humshakals was apparently influenced by Angoor and that was why Rohit didn’t want to proceed with his planned remake. But the project remains on his wish list and he will certainly make it at some point of time in the future. Whether SRK and he will team up for it next, or for some other film altogether, however, is still anybody’s guess.
