Phone and broadband service provider TalkTalk has confirmed that their servers were breached and almost all their 4 million customer database was copied out. The database includes names, addresses, DOB, email addresses, telephone numbers, TalkTalk account information, credit card details and bank details.
BBC reported that the UK-based telecom provider has confirmed about the data breach and the police are investigating on the case. The attack was executed on Thursday, October 22, 2015. The data breach has resulted in drop of TalkTalk shares by almost 10% on the London stock exchange.
BBC further reports that their Radio 4’s ‘Today’ program was informed by cyber security consultant and former Scotland Yard detective Adrian Culley about the hack being carried out by a Russian Islamist group. The group had posted online claiming responsibility for the attacks.
He also mentioned that the hackers claimed to be a cyber-jihadi group who had posted the leaked data online. However, this claim is yet to be verified.
BBC also reported that the TalkTalk Group’s chief executive Harding could not comment on the claims at the moment as investigations are in process.
