Women’s commission cannot judge on WhatsApp talaq: Panel chief
Her stand is contrary to the statement made by its member J. Prameela Devi
KOTTAYAM: The women’s commission has no authority to interpret the legal sanctity of talaq. That should be ascertained by a court of law, according to its chairperson K.C. Rosakutty.
Her stand is contrary to the statement made by its member J. Prameela Devi that the triple talaq sent through WhatsApp by a Vaikom native from the Gulf to his wife in the state was legally invalid.
“The statement may be her personal opinion. The commission doesn’t have any competence or authority to interpret the legal sanctity of the ‘triple ‘Talaq’ sent by the husband. That has to be ascertained by a court of law,” Ms Rosakutty said.
