Hyderabad police launch hunt for phone stalker

CCS officials said that they have not yet arrested the stalker

Hyderabad: A man who claimed to be a former employee of the Food Corporation of India allegedly harassed several women by calling them over the phone and asking sexual favours. Police said the man named Madhu alias Srinivas, allegedly targeted around 200 victims.

The Central Crime Station has started an investigation after receiving complaints from victims. CCS officials said that they have not yet arrested the stalker.

“We have launched a probe following a complaint. The officials are verifying how many women he had been harassing. A search has also been started to nab him,” said additional DCP Ranjan Ratan Kumar of the CCS.

One of the victims, who approached Gandhinagar police initially said the man called her on the phone and offered her a job. Later, he started calling her repeatedly and asked for sexual favours.

The case was later transferred to Central Crime Station. Police suspect that the accused had been luring college students and teenagers and was offering various things to sexually exploit them.

“He collected the contact details of hundreds of girls who are doing Intermediate and in colleges from various sources and has started stalking them. We still do not how many victims have received his calls or fallen prey to his fake offers,” said a CCS official.

The SHE team and cyber crime officials are investigating the case.
