Amaravati joy beats Dasara

Holy places like Temples, Churches and Mosques are decorated

Uddandarayunipalem: People in the CRDA villages are decorating their homes and drawing rangolis to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for Thursday’s Amaravati foundation stone laying ceremony.

Youngsters are happy that the first steps are being taken towards the fulfilment of their dreams. Elders have set up kiosks to provide water for the expected 5 lakh people who will attend the festivities here on Vijayadasami day.

Interestingly, almost everyone in the capital region appeared to be more excited about the once-in-a-lifetime Amaravati shankusthapanam than they were about the annual Dasara festivities.

Mr G. Nageswara Rao from Dondapadu said the villagers had decided to first attend the foundation stone laying ceremony wearing new clothes at Uddandarayunipalem and then gather to perform Durga puja to celebrate Vijayadasami.

Locals pointed out that while the Dasara festival comes every year, they will not see an event like the shankusthapanam again.

The rangolis drawn on the road were attracting the attention of the public who were on their way to Uddandarayunipalem. Ms K. Sandhya and Ms D. Deepthi, residents of Mandadam that is about 2 km from Uddandarayunipalem were seen drawing rangolis with attractive colours adjacent the main road.

They said the youngsters were very happy that the new capital, which would become the pride of the Telugus, was coming up near their homes. They said that with world famous companies coming to AP, mainly in the CRDA area, they could expect good employment.

Many women were spotted drawing rangolis in Velagapudi, Krishanayapalem, Rayapudi, Tullur, Malkapuram, Nelapadu, Tallayapalem, Venakatapalem and other villages of the capital region.

Mr S. Venkateswara Rao and others have opened a kiosk to supply drinking water to the travelling public. They said most people had decorated their houses with flowers and mango leaves for the twin festivals: They said the Amaravati ceremony was like a festival for the villagers of the capital region.

Places of worship in the villages have been decorated, and special prayers would be performed on Thursday to celebrate the foundation ceremony.
