Vinod Kumar wants panel set up to weed out outdated Acts
He urged the state govt to set up a commission headed by a retired HC judge
Hyderabad: TRS deputy floor leader in the Lok Sabha, B. Vinod Kumar on Tuesday urged the state government to set up a commission headed by a retired High Court judge with experience and interest in cleaning up statute book so as to remove “outdated” laws in the State.
“The recommendations of the commission should be adopted without extensive discussion and, by June 2, 2016, Telangana state should have a statute book that is useful, citizen-friendly, workable and rational,” Mr Kumar said.
In a letter to TS law minister A. Indrakaran Reddy, the MP cited the recent decision of the Rajasthan government to repeal 150 redundant laws and a similar exercise undertaken by the Central government earlier. “Outdated Acts should be repealed at the earliest as they are likely to come in the way of development or give authorities an excuse to harass citizens. Our glorious state is unique in the sense that it really has no law of its own except the one or two passed by its Legislature in the first year of its establishment,” he said.
Asked how many such outdated laws were in statute books in TS, Mr Kumar said there were umpteen and needed to be cleared. The AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 allows our government to adopt laws passed earlier by the AP Legislature. “This is a simple task and excellent and unique opportunity for the new state. TS is taking huge strides and this will allow us to put in place an enabling legislative and policy environment to further catalyse our development activities,” Mr Kumar said.
