Hyderabad: Thief says he spread aids to more than 100 women

He claimed that he had been a womaniser and the disease was the result of his deeds

Hyderabad: In a bizarre twist in a theft case, a suspect arrested by the Uppal police in Cyberabad has claimed that despite having AIDS, he had had sex with more than 100 women.

Though police suspect that the figure was exaggerated, a probe has been launched to verify his claims.

Joseph James, 31, an autorickshaw driver from Mirjalguda of Malkajgiri was caught by the police.

Thief’s statement baffles officials

Following an investigation into a theft at a house in Uppal, police arrested the thief who claimed he had spread aids among more than 100 women.

During the interrogation, Joseph James, 31, started voluntarily confessing about his other “bad deeds”.

Police officials said that they had, however, only issued an FIR against him for theft and trespass as no victims had approached them with a complaint.

“This is a strange situation, he repeatedly said that he had lured women and had sexual encounters with them despite knowing he was diagnosed with AIDS.

He claimed that he had been a womaniser and the disease was the result of his deeds. But we cannot book a case based on his confession. If we get victims, we will book the relevant charges on him,” said an investigation official from Malkajgiri division.

The interrogators were baffled when James suddenly started speaking about his way of life when he was asked why he had committed the theft.

“Initially he said he used to gamble, then he confessed he had started visiting sex workers. He elaborated that he used to lure his women passengers for sexual favours, offering money and other valuables,” said an officer.

“We recovered two gold chains, a bracelet, a ring and earrings, which he had stolen from a house. He has been sent to judicial remand,”said Uppal detective inspector Mr Moinuddin said.
