Pejawar swamy’s car stoned in Belagavi; cops file suo motu case
Belagavi: A group of miscreants pelted stones at the car used by Vishwesha Teertha Swamy of Pejawar Math in Belagavi city late on Monday night.
The Swamy's car was parked in front of Krishna Math in Tilakwadi when the incident occurred. Besides his car, another Tempo Traveller vehicle used by him regularly was also stoned and both cars were damaged in the attack.
The seer was resting inside the Math and not in the vehicle when stones were thrown at his car.
According to eyewitnesses, a trio on bike stoned the cars in front of Math and fled the spot immediately.
The Tilakwadi police took the attacked vehicles to the police station and registered a suo motu case after the seer refused to lodge a complaint.
The Pejawar Math head was in the city to attend a programme organised at Krishna Math.
Later, speaking to reporters, he said that he would not file any complaint regarding the incident. Several of his devotees have condemned the incident alleging that a group of youth in Belagavi was bent upon destroying communal harmony by resorting to such activities.
“It is unfortunate that a swamy who never hurt people of any sections is being targeted. The police should take the issue seriously and trace the culprits who stoned the vehicles,” they said urging the police to register cases against miscreants.
