Kalburgi killing casts its shadow on poets’ meet
Mysuru: Contemporary issues concerning the literary fraternity including the killing of writer Dr M.M. Kalburgi and two intellectuals in Maharashtra and attempts being made to curtail freedom of speech, found expression in the poems and speeches made at the two-day Dasara Kavighoshti which ended with Pradhana Kavigoshti here on Tuesday.
Speaking to DC on the attacks on intellectuals, Nadoja Kamala Hampana, who presided over Pradhaana Kavigoshti, said, “We do not know the reason for the attack on Dr Kalburgi. But the attacks on members of the literary world in other parts of the country, have created anxiety among members of the literary world. I urge writers to continue to hold on to their ideologies and their commitment and write without any fear. Although the government has assured protection to those who require it, it is not possible to appoint a policeman for protecting each common man. The government should instill confidence in the literary community by finding the culprits in the Kalburgi case soon and punish them in such a way that it becomes a lesson to those engaging in beastly acts.” Litterateur Latha Rajashekar said, “Writers should express their opinion but should see to it that such writings do not hurt the sentiments of other communities.”
