Government fails to take over Comtrust
Kozhikode: The compound of Comtrust, established by German missionaries in 1844, has now turned into a shrub jungle, making it a haven for anti-socials in the city.
The government move to acquire the land reached nowhere as it failed to follow up with the President's office on a Bill that the government had sent for Presidential consent in 2012.
Till date, the government authorities have not followed up on its status despite repeated protests by Comtrust employees.
The government silenced the workers who refused to retire offering a consolidated monthly sum of Rs 5,000.
"It is the duty of the government to ensure Presidential consent to the Bill. We have been raising this demand, but the state government has not acted on it," K. G. Pankajakshan, district secretary of AITUC, told Deccan Chronicle.
"Our duty is to ensure pay for the workers. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that it takes the possession of the land and develops it further."
Meanwhile, Congress party leaders have thwarted the efforts of a pro-CPM union to take over the property of the Comtrust established by the Basel Mission.
District Congress president K. C. Abu said more revelations on the pro-CPM union's move would come out in the coming days.
