Hunt for killers one of the biggest operations
Bengaluru: The massive manhunt launched to nab killers Madhu and Harish Babu, was one of the biggest operations conducted by the state police. It is learnt that close to 100 policemen burnt midnight oil to hunt down the two.
Police officials termed it as one of the major operations conducted in the recent years. “A large number of policemen were on the job to nab the person, who attacked a woman inside Corporation Bank ATM kiosk near Corporation Circle in November 2013. There was also good coordination between the state and Andhra Pradesh police. Unfortunately, the assailant has still not been traced. The ATM attack case was the one in which a large number of policemen, close to 200, were used. And, PSI murder case is probably the second in which more staff was used,” an official said.
IGP of Central Range, J Arun Chakravarthy, who monitored the entire operations, said, “There were 17 officers of various ranks in the investigating team. Each officer has four policemen in their sub-team on an average. Besides this, the technical team attached to the Bengaluru City Police also assisted us. Apart from this, the policemen in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and finally Maharashtra also joined hands with us.”
Police said that as soon as the murder took place on Friday noon, all senior officers chalked out the plan of action and the course of investigation. “Within a few hours after the murder, several teams were formed and each team was given specific tasks — gathering the details on the background of the accused, tracking their movements through mobile phone call details report, tower signal and other sources, finding out their family members, friends and close associates, and so on,” another official said.
The policemen in the team knew that there was no relief for them until the accused was nabbed. “Some of the policemen did not even go to their houses in the last three days as they were sent to other districts and states as part of the probe. Now that the accused have been held, we are relieved,” he added.
