U-19 cricket: Andhra women champions

U-19 cricket side win all-India trophy for the first time
Hyderabad: Andhra were crowned the all-India BCCI under-19 women’s cricket champions, defeating Uttar Pradesh by six wickets in Monday’s low-scoring final played in Cuttack, Odisha.
This is the first time in Andhra women’s cricket history that a team were crowned national champions. This is also only the second time an Andhra side won a national tournament — the ACA under-19 men’s side clinched the national crown back in 2005.
A delighted Andhra Cricket Association immediately announced a cash reward for Rs 7 lakh to the team for their historic triumph. The ACA had earlier promised the side Rs 3 lakh after they qualified for the knockouts.
After taking first strike, UP’s innings never quite took off. By the end of their 50-over quota, they had managed just 112, losing nine wickets in the process. E. Padmaja (3 for 25), M. Bhavana (2 for 9) and Ch Jhansi Lakshmi (2 for 20) were among the wickets for Andhra while Deepti top-scored for Uttar Pradesh with 56.
Andhra took time to settle in during the chase and as a consequence, they strolled past the finish line in the 41st over with six wickets in hand.
