Vehicle stolen? What’s the hurry, wonder cops

Bengaluru businessman livid after police delayed FIR on theft of his two-wheeler

BENGALURU: It’s been almost a week’s time since Shankar Biddappa, a businessman, had his bike stolen, but he is still waiting for the police to initiate inquiry into his vehicle theft case which took place on October 7, noon in Venkatapura. The police first delayed in filing a FIR into the alleged theft case by one day and then despite frequent visits to the police station, the cops have not even visited the spot till today, alleges Mr Biddappa.

The incident took place on October 7, in front of Cyber Planet, a café in Venkatapura. Mr. Biddappa who was a frequent visitor to the café had parked his bike right ahead of the café around 11.45 am and went inside the café. But, when he came out after few hours, his bike had gone missing. After a frantic search for over one-and-a-half-hour, Mr. Biddappa approached the café owner and requested him to check the CCTV footage.

Speaking with DC, Mr. Biddappa said, “When I came out, my bike which was parked in front of the gate was missing. I thought it might have been towed away. After searching everywhere, I asked Mohan, the café owner to check the CCTV footage. It showed two well-dressed men lifting my bike and fleeing the spot. I rushed to the jurisdictional police station with all the evidence. But, the writer’s response at the station was shocking. He told me that – ‘What’s the hurry? Wait for two days to raise a complaint else, it will be difficult for you to get your bike released from the court’.”

Bidappa then approached the higher officer who allegedly advised him to wait till evening as he would be sending the cops to the spot. But, no one visited the spot till 9 pm, added Mr. Biddappa. After several rounds to the station, the cops finally registered an FIR on October, 8.

“It has been a week almost but no one has even visited the spot or called in for enquiry. Such is the state of the police when in spite of having all the credible information, they are least bothered to take up the issue,” pointed Mr. Biddappa.
