Telangana: Platform tickets to cost Rs 20
The Nampally station witnesses over 50,000 passenger on a normal day and sees a 20 per cent increase during festivals
Hyderabad: Cashing in on the festival season, the South Central Railway has increased the price of platform tickets from Rs 10 to Rs 20 to control the large number of visitors who come to stations to send off or receive passengers.
The increase, however, is only at the Secunderabad Railway station, and platform tickets at Nampally, Kachiguda and other sub stations remains Rs 10. This is the first time that platform ticket prices have been increased and the trend is likely to continue depending on the traffic.
On an average day the Secunderabad station witnesses over 80,000 passengers and around 1.60 lakh people on the platform. However during Dussehra and Sankranti, there is a 40 per cent increase in travelers and visitors.
The Nampally station witnesses over 50,000 passenger on a normal day and sees a 20 per cent increase during festivals. There is also a steep increase during the Ayyappa Swamy season.
An SCR official said, “It has nothing to do with revenue generation, but to discourage casual walk-ins, it is a localized measure adapted for the first time.”
“To avoid the travelling public being inconvenienced due to the huge number of visitors during this season and to ensure decongestion of platforms, the rate of platform ticket, only at Secunderabad Railway Station, has been enhanced from present Rs 10/- to Rs 20/- for a period of 10 days, from October 17 to 26.”
