Secular Hindus will protect minorities: Ghulam Nabi Azad

BJP dividing people on religious lines: Congress

Hyderabad: Accusing the BJP of trying to divide the people on religious lines, AICC member former Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that as long as a majority of Hindus remained secular, the minorities will not face a threat.

Mr Azad participated in the Silver Jubilee of the Rajiv Sadbhavana Yatra, organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Committee on Monday at Charminar in Hyderabad.

Addressing the gathering, he said that the country was more important than the party to Congress members.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh said that Ravana had only 10 heads but the BJP and Sangh Parivar have many more. “Some BJP leaders speak about violence while others speak about non-violence, and Sadbhavana (harmony) is Congress policy.

He said that Rahul Gandhi was working to strengthen the Congress in the county.

TS PCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that there was no relation between the Congress and MIM and called the party cadre to work hard for the party’s victory in the forthcoming GHMC elections.

Mr Digvijay Singh presented the Sadbhavana Award to Mr Azad on the occasion.

Earlier, while waiting to receive Mr Azad and Mr Digvijay Singh, an argument arose between Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president D. Nagendar and MLA Rammohan Reddy from Ranga Reddy district.

Mr Rammohan Reddy asked the AICC leaders to de-merge the urban area of Ranga Reddy district from the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee, which was objected to by Mr Nagendar.
