Khammam: The road connecting Jagadalpur in Chhattisgarh and Vijayawada, close to Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, will be widened at a cost of Rs 550 crore.
TS Road and Buildings minister T. Nageswara Rao on Monday said that traffic on the road has increased in recent times and hence it was planned to widen the road, keeping Amaravati in mind. Mr Nageswara Rao said that the Central government has sanctioned funds for the project.
The minister said that the newly-constructed bridge across the River Godavari between Charla and Eturnagaram will be inaugurated by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on October 23. Union minister Nitin Gadkari has been invited to the function.
“We plan to explain the importance of widening the Aswaraopet-Suryapet road to Mr Gadkari,” Mr Rao said.
On irrigation front, he said that plans were being drawn to extend more water to Khammam by lifting it from the River Godavari.
