Mahasabha push for Nathuram Godse ‘glory’

The Congress called this “shameful”

New Delhi: In yet another surprising move, the All India Hindu Mahasabha has said it will mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, Nathuram Godse, as martyrdom day at the district level in all states on November 15.

The Congress called this “shameful”.

The right-wing outfit plans to hold blood donation camps and distribute books written by Gopal Godse, Nathuram’s younger brother and the co-accused in Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, to take the debate to the grassroots level on whether Godse was a “patriot” or a “traitor”.

“We have decided to commemorate November 15, the day Nathuram Godse was hanged, as ‘Balidaan Diwas’ at the district level in each state. We will also hold blood donation camps that day,” Mahasabha president Chandra Prakash Kaushik said.

He added that the blood collected will be handed over to government hospitals to be used for soldiers across the country.

“Copies of books written by Gopal Godse would be distributed to people, including his book Gandhivadh aur main. Let the public decide if Godse was right,” he said.
