The US maintains that it does not snoop on or hack web sites of individual companies

Hyderabad: The ongoing tussle between individual hackers of India and Pakistan might negatively affect bilateral relations in the course of time, as the cyber attacks are becoming more frequent, says Dr. Adam Segal of the digital and cyberspace policy programme at the Council on Foreign Relations (A US- based think tank).
Segal said on Monday that it was legitimate from the US perspective to spy on other countries since it was not apparent that “most countries snooped on each other”.
Addressing the media at the American Corner in Saint Francis College here, he said, “Indian and Pakistani hackers take down each other's government websites. It might not lead to any major conflicts, but when the attacks eventually target major establishments like nuclear power stations, it might result in tension.”
Talking about NSA’s snooping on other countries, he said, “US action could be categorised as good spying. There is a difference between US spying on other countries and Chinese hackers stealing properties of individual companies based in the US and giving that to the Chinese competitors. The US maintains that it does not snoop on or hack web sites of individual companies.”
