GUNTUR: The locals of Ananthavaram, Abbarajupalem, Tullur and adjacent areas have returned the silk clothes presented to them by the government, alleging that it was of very poor quality, so much so that it is unfit to be worn on such a grand occasion as the foundation day ceremony.
They also were unhappy that the customary boxes of sweets were not sent along with the clothes and that the entry passes were reduced from two to one.
They lodged a complaint with Tadikonda MLA T. Sravan Kumar, who in turn brought the issue to the notice of the officials.
On Sunday, CRDA officials started distributing the silk clothes along with the invitations to the ceremony in Ananthavaram.
The locals, who opened the package, were visibly upset over the quality of the dhoti and sari.
They reminded that the quality of the clothes distributed at the time of the ministers’ programme was far superior, and returned the packages.
Similar complaints were made at Abbarajupalem, Tullur and adjacent areas. The locals said that the clothes were of such low quality that they would probably cost a mere Rs 500 to Rs 700 in the open market.
Officials later assured the donors that the clothes would be replaced with high quality silk.
