MHA seeks report on security breach in Raisina hill

A foreign diplomat was spotted using helicam to obtain aerial pictures of Raisina hill

New Delhi: The Home Ministry today sought areport from the Delhi Police after a foreign diplomat was spotted using a helicam, a remote controlled mini device, to obtain aerial pictures of high-security Raisina hill, housing Rashtrapati Bhavan, PMO and other sensitive installations in the national capital.

In a communication, the Home Ministry told the Delhi Police to send a detailed report about the reported incident of security breach, the action taken so far and how to stop future occurrence of any such incident, sources said. The entire area is a no-flying zone and flying of aircraft or any other device is strictly prohibited and considered a security breach.

Security was tightened in and around Vijay Chowk on Saturday while police teams were deployed in Raisina hill area after the unidentified foreigner, believed to be a diplomat, was spotted flying a suspected helicam.

Helicams are remote-controlled mini aerial devices, fitted with still or motion film cameras, that are used to shoot aerial pictures or videos.

The foreigner was operating the flying object, which was seen hovering around 20-30 feet above the ground, sources said.
