Chennai: The Tamil Nadu police has beefed up vigil on the state’s border with Kerala following exchange of fire between Kerala commandos and suspected Maoists on Saturday in a tribal village in Palakkad district.
The incident was at Agali, a remote tribal area in Palakkad district, when a team led by Attapadi inspector and members of Thunderbolt, special commando wing of Kerala police, were conducting combing operations.
A senior police officer here in Tamil Nadu police headquarters said Kerala police fired seven rounds after suspected Maoists opened fire on Saturday morning. “It is believed at least one member of the naxal group was injured in firing,” the officer added.
