UDF worst hit after last day of withdrawal for corp
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF is facing severe rebel menace in the city corporation with around 12 of them contesting against the official candidates when the time limit for withdrawal ended on Saturday.
There is only a single rebel for LDF. In Kinavoor ward, CPM Nalanchira local committee member Seelas has decided to contest against DYFI leader Dinesh.
A Congress rebel, DCC member and former Youth Congress district secretary Mudavanmugal Satheesh, is contesting against UDF mayor candidate K. Maheswaran Nair in Mudavanmugal ward.
The KPCC which failed to finalise the candidate for Poundukadavu ward had asked both Mr Veli Varghese and Ms Suseela to file the nomination and Mr Varghese was nominated.
Ms Suseela, a sitting councillor, decided to contest as a rebel. Sitting councillor Sudheer Khan from Vizhinjam is contesting as a rebel. In Peroorkada, Mr Manamoola Rajesh is a rebel against his maternal uncle Manamoola Rajan.
Mr M.S. Anil of the Congress has filed the nomination in Kazkakuttom protesting against giving the seat to JDU. The Congress and Kerala Congress (M) are on a friendly fight at
Pattom with both parties announcing official candidates.
Though the LDF did not have much rebel menace in the city, 33 rebels are contesting from eight panchayats and one municipality in the district.
They include the CPI candidates in Nellanadu and Vamanapuram panchayats who are contesting against CPM candidates.
The CPI has filed candidates to all 16 wards in Nellanadu and nine out of the 16 wards in Vamanapuram grama panchayat following differences over seat-sharing.
Three candidates are contesting as rebels after stealing the letter pad of DCC president Karakulam Krishna Pillai to claim the official symbol in three wards across three panchayats. Following, this, the DCC has submitted a complaint to both the police and the election commission.
