Low VIP turnout sees fall in Durga temple income

Preparatory works for new capital keep officials busy

Vijayawada: VVIP and VIP turnout at the Durga temple atop Indrakeeladri remained low as all the senior officials are busy with the arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s and other foreign delegates’ visit to the city on October 22.

This has reportedly impacted the income of the temple as the income generated through VIP tickets has decreased by an estimated 20 per cent this year, when compared to the previous year.

In the last five days only 30 VVIPs visited the temple, which is very less when compared to last year. Five ministers, six MLAs and two district collectors have so far visited the temple to seek the blessings of presiding deity.

Meanwhile, the low turn up of VIPs has reportedly upset the officials as they had put many hopes that the recent announcement of state festival would see more senior officials and politicos at the temple, which would indirectly generate more income to the treasury.

“Devasthanam arranged three special buses and four cars for VVIP and VIP guests,” said Temple EO Ch. Narasinga Rao. “The present situation would upset the officials as they had made arrangements for VVIP and VIP devotees. The special buses and cars are being used by other devotees,”said Mr Bala, VVIP devotees care taker.
