Katyayani Vidamahe to return Akademi Award
Warangal: Kendra Sahitya Akademi award recipient and writer Prof. Katyayani Vidamahe has on Saturday announced that she would return her award protesting against the attacks on writers. Speaking to the media here, she said she would return the award on October 23.
The Professor received the Akademi award for her book of essays Sahityakasamlo Sagam, an anthology of literary essays in 2013.
She expressed her displeasure on the undeclared ban on freedom of expression where the writers with difference of opinion were being killed. She said the intolerance towards freedom of expression is taking a violent shape everyday referring to the recent killing of Kannada writer M.M. Kalburgi.
“I wish to join the writers across the nation who are protesting this brutal suppression of writers. I it is sad how the Akademi which honored the same writers is remaining a mere spectator for this evil trend,” she said.
It is acceptable for any writer if someone criticizes their work. But killing is not the way to criticize," she said.
