CPI slams rejection of NJAC by Supreme Court

The CPI leader said that Parliament is supreme in a parliamentary democracy

Hyderabad: The CPI Central Secretariat on Saturday said that the judiciary had encroached upon the sovereignty of Parliament with Friday’s SC judgement striking down the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act.

CPI national secretary Dr K. Narayana, in a statement, said that the collegium system was not transparent and had no accountability. The records were beyond the reach of even judicial experts, he pointed out The CPI leader said that Parliament is supreme in a parliamentary democracy.

“The Supreme Court cannot give judgements which are contrary to the basic democratic rights of the people and their representatives,” Dr Narayana said.
