BJP minister rapped for rape quip
BENGALURU: Senior BJP leader and leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa’s atrocious poser to a woman journalist attracted severe criticism and also prompted the local media corps to lodge a complaint seeking legal action against him.
Mr Eshwarappa, who attended the last rites of slain police SI Jagadish in Mallapura village in Ramanagara district this morning was replying to a question posed by a local TV correspondent.
Legal action against Eshwarappa sought
Senior Karnataka BJP leader K.S. Eshwarappa’s reply to a television correspondent who asked him at a SI’s funeral if the principal Opposition, BJP, had failed in its duty to take on the government about growing incidents of crime became controversial.
His party colleagues too minced no words while commenting on Mr Eshwarappa’s controversial statement with leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, remarking that it was not in good taste. “We will discuss this issue in the party forum,” he said.
As leaders of all parties condemned Mr Eshwa-rappa for his disgraceful statement, women journalists petitioned Mr Siddaramaiah, seeking legal action against the BJP leader.
In a memorandum submitted to the CM, they said: “we want you (Mr Siddaramaiah) to take immediate legal action against Mr Eshwarappa under sections 509 and 294 of IPC pertaining to offending the dignity of women and indecency. We find the comment extremely offensive and humiliating. Mr Eshw-arappa is defending himself, stating that he was “only giving an example” but it offends and belittles both the reporter and the woman who asked him that question.”
