Acharya Nagarjuna University likely to get new Vice-Chancellor soon

The government also prepared a list of fifteen eminent persons

Guntur: Acharya Nagarjuna University will get a new regular Vice-Chancellor soon. According to the sources, the government will likely appoint an eminent professor from outside the university as the new VC.

It may be noted that after the suicide of B. Arch student M. Rishiteswari, the government had replaced Vice-Chancellor K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao and put a senior IAS officer, B. Udayalakshmi at the helm.

Sources informed that the cabinet in its recent meeting tentatively decided to appoint Professor Y.C. Simhandri, who had earlier worked in the university as the new VC.

However, the government also prepared a list of fifteen eminent persons to be considered for the post. Few other names being considered for the post are former VC of the University K. R. S. Sambasiva Rao, S. K. Mohan Rao of Andhra University and Srinivasulu Naidu of SK University.

A senior official at ANU said that after the Rishiteswari incident the state government has been keenly monitoring the university affairs. The government is aware of the issues in the campus and would find the right person to tackle the issues, he said.
