Delhi minors gangraped: NCW chief visits victims, summons cops

Kumaramangalam met the parents of both victims and assured them all help

New Delhi: National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam on Sunday visited two minor gangrape victims who were admitted at different city hospitals.

She met the two-and-a-half-year-old girl at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in the morning and then visited the five- year-old girl at GTB Hospital.

"I wanted to find out about the situation and the condition of the victims," Kumarmangalam said.

She assured all help to the parents of both the victims, whom she met in the hospital.

"I spoke to the parents and they are quite satisfied with the treatment... The victims are recovering," she said.

Two men riding a motorcycle from a Ramlila event in west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar locality on Friday night kidnapped the two-and-a-half-year-old girl. She was later found in a park bleeding profusely and crying.

In the other case reported the same day, the five-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by a co-tenant and two of his associates at a slum cluster in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area.

Expressing concern over the horrific incidents, the NCW chief said that such incidents are happening quite often.

"These kind of incidents are happening quite often. This is very terrible as it is about the safety of women and children," she said, adding that the issue should not be politicised.

"I do not want to politicise the matter as it dilutes the issue," she said.

The NCW chief said she has summoned Delhi Police officials investigating the cases to take stock of the actions being taken in the matter.

"I have summoned the investigating officers of both the cases. We need to know what action is being taken," she said.
