A colouring book to know your plants

The book illustrates 40 species of plants, mostly found across India

Ecologist Dr Nina Sengupta was at Our Sacred Space, Secunderabad, to launch a colouring book for adults and the young titled Edible Weeds and Naturally Growing Plants in Auroville.

The book illustrates 40 species of plants, mostly found across India, and gives details about the different names of the plants in different languages along with the normally used method of consumption of the plants or their extract. Says Sengupta, “Such colouring books are very popular abroad and they give a lot of information in a very user-friendly manner. It is also a very good method of relieving stress for adults. I also feel that this method is a better way of retaining information.

“There is a lot of awareness on ecology in India in areas of wildlife and organic foods these days. But we are still far behind in terms of small things, like taking our own empty containers to the supermarket for our groceries.”

The writer is musician, creator of ‘Jaywant Guitar’ and a freelance photographer
