Rajamouli eyes Mahabharata next

Director Rajamouli participates in an event at IIT-M

Chennai: Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s fascination for Indian epic Mahabharata is well known by now. In an earlier interview, he referred to his magnum opus, Bahubali – the epic war drama as a tribute to Mahabharata.

Hence, on Saturday when the Bahubali maker was in the city to address a jam-packed gathering of students at IIT-Madras, questions about his dream project were inevitable.

The director didn’t mince words when he took questions on his dream project and had practical aspirations about bringing the epic to silver screen. “I need at least 10 more years of experience to start making Mahabharata,” Rajamouli said adding, “If the project takes shape, it will be made into four parts.”

The Bahubali director further added that it would be impossible to have a ‘Starry cast’ if his dream project takes shape. “It will take minimum six years to complete the project and can you imagine any star who will give dates for such a project?” the director said observing that it would be imperative to create ‘Stars’ to feature in Rajamouli’s Mahabharata.

As if roaming with an instrument that reads the pulse of the youth, Rajamouli drew parallels with popular American TV series, Game of Thrones to share his vision. “I am sure most of you follow it. If you look at it, majority of the actors are new and by now, the audience cannot imagine anyone else in their place,” he said.
