I was in splits: Ali Fazal

Ali Fazal is basking in the response that the trailer of his web film Bang Baaja Baraat has garnered among friends and viewers. “The response has been amazing. I am getting calls from friends and they have loved it and I am quite surprised. I had a great time shooting the film as it was a new experience. I am fairly new to the industry and didn’t imagine that I’d do a web film so soon,” he says.

For a particular shot in the film, Ali had to give nine retakes — not because it was a tough scene, but a rather hilarious one. “There’s a shot in the trailer where my fiance’s (Angira Dhar) father has a sex toy on his forehead, originally meant to be a prop for his daughter’s bachelorette party. At the same time, I am there trying to say something important. It was hilarious and I was in splits while shooting,” he adds.

Talking about how he came on board, the actor says, “Anand (Tiwari) and I go back a long way but I had initially said no because that turf was not known to me. I haven’t done a web film before so I wasn’t sure. But once I heard it, I was totally sold. The YRF banner was like a cherry on top. I shot for this film in between the Indo-Chinese project I was doing.”
