Pakistan arrests 27 Indian fishermen with four fishing vessels

The fishermen will be handed over to Karachi police to register cases against them

Karachi: Pakistan on Saturday arrested 27 Indian fishermen for allegedly violating its territorial waters off the coast of southern Sindh province, a maritime official said.

The fishermen were arrested on the Arabian Sea off the coast of Badin district in southern province of Sindh.

An official of Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) has confirmed that "27 Indian fishermen were arrested with their four fishing vessels."

He said the fishermen will be handed over to police in Karachi to register cases against them.

Maritime officials of India and Pakistan regularly arrest fishermen who stray in to each other's waters due to poorly marked sea boundary.

They languish in jails for months and sometimes for years before set free on important occasions.

Pakistan released 163 Indian fishermen in August ahead of a meeting of their national security advisors which was later called off.
