Moderate quake topples buildings, kills one in north Argentina

The 5.9-magnitude quake's epicenter was 13 miles of El Galpon

Buenos Aires: A moderate earthquake has toppled buildings and left at least one person dead in the northern Argentine region of Salta.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the 5.9-magnitude quake's epicenter was 13 miles (21 kilometers) east of El Galpon, Argentina. The depth of Saturday morning's quake was 5.1 miles (8.2 kms).

State news agency Telam reported that one woman died as a result of the quake and images broadcast on social media showed some toppled buildings.

Argentina's National Seismic Prevention Institute said the quake was felt strongly in the city of Salta, 75 miles (120 kms) away.
