Telugu scholars against award stir
They questioned the writers on the selective outrage and also selective amnesia
Hyderabad: Certain eminent Telugu scholars of the city condemned the act of writers who have returned the Sahitya Akademi award in protest against communal disturbances across the country. They questioned the writers on the selective outrage and also selective amnesia and asked why they did not return the awards during the Muzaffarnagar riots and the Delhi Sikh killings which were equally disturbing.
The Telugu scholars held a round table conference on October 16 in the city and stated that most that have returned their awards across the country are left leaning intellectuals who made good during the UPA regime I and II and the act of giving back the recognition is funded and organised and is to shame the NDA government. M. Shiva Prasad, former head of the department of Telugu, OU and a speaker at the conference said, “The attitude of the writers is to discredit the Modi government, leftist fear, lack of legislative space in the present political sphere making them more intolerant.
Justice Narsimha Reddy, former Chief Justice of Bihar High court who was also part of the discussion said, “Bharat culture is such that it can take many more from these anti-Hindu initiatives.” Dr T. Hanumanth Chowdary, founder Pragna Bharati added, “The Dadri incident has no relevance to religion and it has been hyped by the anti-Modi government forces.
