SNDP-BJP deal breaks in Kollam

The move to make alliance was finally dropped after both the sides disapproved of each other's demands

Kollam: In a major setback to the SNDP-BJP alliance, the BJP has denied seats to SNDP Yogam in Kollam Corporation, violating the bilateral agreement reached earlier.

The BJP has thus decided to go along with its decision to contest in the Eravipuram, Akkolil, and College divisions of the Corporation that were offered to SNDP.

Meanwhile, four rounds of talks could not help both BJP and SNDP to reach a consensus on jointly contesting the local body polls in Kottarakkara. The move to make alliance was finally dropped after both the sides disapproved of each other's demands.

The SNDP leadership put forward its suggestion that BJP should contest independently in the strongholds of SNDP which was not agreed to by the party.

Meanwhile, the BJP also broached the idea that SNDP workers should work for candidates fielded by BJP, which was in turn rejected by SNDP leadership.

The SNDP leadership had earlier declared that it would field candidates in district, block, and panchayat seats. As part of this it pointed out the left-dominated area of Neduvathoor to field candidates in district and block panchayat levels.

However, the move was tactfully handled by the CPM which fielded an SNDP candidate to contest in Neduvathoor.
