Museum to showcase tribal culture at Medaram
The biennial tribal fair is expected to attract 1 crore devotees this year
Medaram (Warangal): In a bid to improve tourism in the interior areas of the district, the state government is constructing a museum which educates the tourists about the lifestyle of Adivasis. Tourism minister A. Chandulal on Friday laid the foundation stone for the museum at Medaram. He said the museum will be one of its kind where tourists will come to know about the culture and tradition of the tribal people.
“With a budget of Rs 2 crore, we intend to finish the construction of the museum before the Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara to be conducted in February 2016. Not just the devotees but students and other people from various other clans will know about 30 various clans which are present in the two Telugu speaking states,” he said.
The biennial tribal fair is expected to attract 1 crore devotees this year. With the setting up of this museum here, the culture, traditions, food and dressing habits will be put on display for the devotees to understand the lifestyle of Adivasis. The tribals have been asking for the setting up of this museum since 2010. Now, the Telangana government took up the project seriously and decided to construct the museum. The budget which was initially estimated to be Rs 1 crore was later doubled to Rs 2 crore.
There will be 12 sections in the museum and it will have space for 200 tourists at a time. The deities of the tribals, their dressing and other material used by Adivasis will be on display at the museum.
