The CJ said the matter has gone beyond limit and need bitter pills for treatment
Chennai: The Madras High court has reserved order in connection with a suo motu proceeding initiated by the court against president and secretary of Madurai Bar Association for staging a protest against the Judges in Madurai.
When the matter came up on Friday, N.G.R. Prasad, counsel for a contemnor, said the problems can be solved through talks. Advocates are facing problems due to the contempt proceeding and action initiated by Bar Council. The CJ can solve the issue, he said.
The CJ said the matter has gone beyond limit and need bitter pills for treatment. One should analyse the issue deeply and only then we can find a solution. He said the issue is only whether to refer the larger bench or continue the matter as such. Legal aspects on the issues will be discussed.
The matter was referred to Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul by a division bench of Justices Tamilvanan and C.T. Selvam, which was hearing the petition and proceedings, passed a split verdict. The proceeding was beamed live on a television on September 30.
While Justice S. Tamilvanan sought for a larger bench to be constituted, preferably headed by Chief Justice, to give a full stop to the illegal activities of certain lawyers, acting against the judicial institution, Justice C.T. Selvam was against the opinion of referring the matter to the larger bench and issues can be dealt independently and contempt proceeding can be taken to a logical end.
