It’s experience Veena S Nair glitz at Sasthamangalam
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In order to counter the glamour quotient of Veena S Nair, the anchor turned UDF candidate of Shasthamangalam ward, the CPM has started a furious campaign with most of the prominent walls being pasted with their candidate Bindu Sreekumar, 42, a locally known figure.
She is the wife of two time former local councilor Sreekumar who was unsuccessful in holding onto the ward which was a Communist bastion between 1995 and 2005. Bindu, a co-operative bank employee claims she holds the advantage at the moment as she has experience of working in the constituency for the past two decades.
According to her, Mrs Sreekumar's priority is to ensure better conditions of by roads including the one at Pippinmoodu, Kochar road and parts of Panicker's lane.
"The voters' response was that during the last five years the good work done by Mr Sreekumar was undone. Garbage management is also an area of concern," said Mrs Sreekumar.
Though the UDF workers here were expecting the name of one Thankamani teacher as their probable candidate, tables were turned against her on Wednesday as Advocate Veena Nair, 26, the daughter-in-law of former Uduma MLA Kunjikkannam, was announced as the candidate.
The UDF party convention at Shasthamangalam was inaugurated by KPCC President VM Sudheeran on Friday.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate Parvathy Sankar avoided queries and referred this paper to the party district office to know what she had to offer for this election.
Shasthamangalam which was a UDF ward had shifted in favour of LDF when in 1990, Harikumar from a local family won for the CPM. It was lost to the UDF again by sitting councilor G Suresh Kumar alias Shasthamangalam Gopan.
