Abdul Kalam inspired youth to take up science research: Manohar Parrikar

Dr Kalam struck a chord with young minds, created interest in science, says Parrikar

Bengaluru: The late President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, not only played a role in checking the “mad rush” of engineers to IT sector but also inspired thousands of young men and women to take up science as a career, defence minister Manohar Parrikar said on Friday.

He said “Dr Kalam struck a chord with young minds, created interest in science and research through talks, presentations and discussions. He not only prevented brain drain, but also influenced the Diaspora to reverse the trend and make it brain gain,” while inaugurating a seminar in memory of the late President.

HAL finishes trial for LCH
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s light combat helicopter (LCH) has completed performance trials paving way for finalisation of basic configuration. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, visited HAL’s helicopter complex here on Friday and had a detailed look on advanced features and armament fit of LCH prototypes. Based on successful completion of remaining flight trials, HAL expects operational clearance from Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification very soon.
